Note: Please read through all of the instructions before beginning. All of the seam allowances are 1/4″ unless otherwise noted. Width of fabric (WOF) is equal to at least 42-1/2″ wide. Press all seam allowances open after each seam is sewn, unless otherwise noted.Remember to measure twice and cut once!

INSTRUCTIONS

CUTTING
Fabric A:

Cut five strips 8-1/2″ x WOF
Subcut nine strips 8-1/2″ x 16-1/2″
Fabric B:

Cut two strips 16-1/2″ x WOF
Subcut nine strips 8-1/2″ x 16-1/2″
Fabric C:

Cut five strips 8-1/2″ x WOF
Subcut nine strips 8-1/2″ x 16-1/2″
Fabric D:

Cut five strips 8-1/2″ x WOF
Subcut nine strips 8-1/2″ x 16-1/2″
Fabric E:

Cut fifteen strips 8-1/2″ x WOF
Subcut seventy-two squares 8-1/2″ x 8-1/2″
Binding:

Cut seven strips 2-1/2″ x WOF

Block Assembly

Step 1. Place an 8-1/2″ Fabric E square at one end of a Fabric A strip (making sure that the Fabric A print is going the right way). Mark a diagonal line one the wrong side of the square as shown. Sew on the marked like and trim away the excess fabric, leaving a 1/4″ seam allowance. Press towards the triangle.

Step 2. Repeat Step 1 with another 8-1/2″ Fabric E square on the remaining end of the rectangle. The resulting flying geese (FG) block should measure 8-1/2″ x 16-1/2″.

Step 3. Repeat Steps 1 & 2 with remaining Fabric A strips to create a total of nine Fabric A FG’s.

Step 4. Repeat Steps 1-3 for all remaining 8-1/2″ x 16-1/2″ Fabric B-D strips. When finished there sould be a total of nine of each block shown below.

Quilt top Assembly

Step 5. Following the diagram below sew blocks into pairs (noting fabic placement) and then sew the pairs into rows. Press odd numbered rows to the right and even numbered rows to the left.

Step 6. Sew the rows together pressing the seams open to one side. Your quilt top is now complete. Sandwich, baste and quilt using your favourite method. Bind using binding fabric.
